This petition is to help influence decision makers to declare November 22nd "22q11.2 awareness day" in the state of Maryland. This is a genetic condition that is nearly as common as down syndrome but many have never heard of it. Many go undiagnosed into adulthood as the range of how a person may be affected varies so much. This is the 2nd most common cause of heart defects and developmental delay after Down syndrome. My beautiful daughter, Rylee ,was diagnosed last year with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome. Fortunately we detected it early and have been able to get her many of her much needed therapies. She has had numerous unavoidable hospital stays and has had many obstacles but early intervention and understanding her conditions have been vital. It is important to spread awareness because this is not an inherited condition, nothing a parent did or didn't do can change this from occurring. My goal is to make others more aware of this condition and to promote acceptance of those with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome. Please sign this petition in support of not only my child but many like her.
