The new Uk government must continue and speed up the Syria refugee resettlement programme, which was started by former PM David Cameron in 2015 and promised to resettle 20.000 Syrian refugees from the Middle East to the Uk by 2020. To date only  5453 Syrians have arrived in this country under the resettlement programme and new PM Theresa May has not guaranteed her government's  continued resettlement of Syrian refugees, even though she was Home Secretary at the time it was initiated.

The UK opted out of the EU relocation pact to resettle 150.000 refugees from Italy and Greece. History will already judge us very unfavourably for not accepting our role and responsibility nor show solidarity not only with Syrians, but neither with our European neighbours. We must at least ensure the promised 20.000 reach our shores by 2020 if not earlier.
