Kelechi Chioba is a Black, Disabled, Queer Asylum Seeker who has been labeled a “curse” by her family and could quite possibly face Violence and Death should she be forced to return home. Kelechi is a survivor of Physical and Sexual Violence, a wheelchair user as well as having a number of other physical and mental health problems. She has also attempted to take her own life several times. Her physical health has deteriorated over the last few months and she is currently receiving medical treatment.

We made this petition when Kelechi was given notice of detention at Yarls Wood. Thankfully, we won and they did not detain Kelechi.

However, we are fighting for more than that. We want Kelechi to be given full rights to stay here, to stop the threat of her ever having to Nigeria. This is her home. Here is safe and receiving the help she needs to recover from the abuse she has received. Here she is safe to be with whoever she wants to be.

The threat of detention and deportation is always round the corner until we can guarantee Kelechi has the rights to stay.
Kelechi has said "I am scared of what will happen to me if they send me back and I know my life will be in danger.”

We, the undersigned, are severely concerned about Kelechi’s wellbeing and safety if she is deported. We dispute the Home Office’s claim that her situation is insufficient for her to remain.

We demand that Ministers take action to prevent her detention for Kelechi’s safety and that she be granted full Asylum Seeker Status.
