Plastics are beginning to be a huge dilemma all throughout the world. They are big convenience due to their cheap expense and their durability. But, it is their durability that is killing us. Plastics do not break down and biodegrade fast enough to be able to live without its effects on us. Only 9% of the 8.3 billion tonnes of plastic have been recycled, 12% of it has been burned, releasing carbon dioxide and other harmful gases into the air, and that leaves the rest in a dump or floating around in the environment affecting multiple ecosystems. Scientists have found that at least 700 marine species have been affected by plastics. 12.7 million tonnes of plastic enter the ocean every minute. Low-income families who live near plastic production facilities suffer from the exposure of toxins in their everyday lives. Plastics affect people by ending up in our food without realizing it. The only way to stop this mess is to put restrictions on large companies that produce these never-ending plastics. By signing this petition you are agreeing in the plan to stop these companies and taking a stand against the production of single-use plastics for they affect not only the environment, but also the people around us including ourselves.
