Every month Amazon sends their Prime members an editors choice selection of pre-release Kindle books. Month after month, all of these recommended titles are written by white people.
With racism and equality currently at the forefront of the world’s attention. We call on Amazon to uplift Black and minority writers. Including a minimum of one title a month that is written by a Black or minority author would showcase and promote the diverse range of talent that is currently being overlooked.
Black and minority voices are all too often ignored, but there is so much to be learned from these voices and the stories they tell. Not just titles on on anti-racism. There should be books written by, for, and about Black and minority people, about Black and minority life and love and joy. This would give all of us a chance to broaden our horizons, see things from other perspectives and to appreciate the artistry, and expertise that cultures different to our own have to offer.
Amazon is a global company and it is time for their editors recommendations to be equally global. They have the perfect vehicle to encourage diversity, support writers who really need it and open the minds of their readers.
Please join us in encouring Amazon to make this change.
