Suburban Unity Alliance started this petition to Amazon and

Just as predictable as the change in seasons, each year Halloween partiers & trick or treaters, proudly walk around in racially & culturally insensitive costumes that perpetuate stereotypes and tropes that disparage people of color. No matter how often it is pointed out that such costume choices and the donning of Black face lead to real harm, individuals & companies continue to choose to advertise and profit from costumes that cheapen, exaggerate or mock ethnic backgrounds, cultural traditions and body features. Many companies and DIYers still aren’t getting the message.

Apparently bigotry is alive and profitable. Amazon is the largest internet retailer in the world & therefore is one of the largest profiteers of bigotry, providing an easy way for individuals to get their hands on racially & culturally inventive Halloween costumes.

Amazon states that it’s guided by four principles: customer obsession rather than competitor focus; passion for invention; commitment to operational excellence; and long-term thinking.

Join us in demanding and challenging Amazon to engage in long-term thinking to identify how a continuation in selling racist & culturally insensitive costumes does great harm to our communities. Bigotry, should not be a costumer obsession.

We demand that Amazon immediately halt the promotion and sale of any Halloween costumes or accessories that would be deemed as racially or culturally insensitive.
