I paid money for my Echo device. I buy something from you pretty much every week. I'm a good customer, Amazon. You also get crazy rich from harvesting and selling my data and I don't complain about that. Because capitalism. The point is that you already get a lot out of this relationship we have. SO WHY DO YOU TORTURE ME??!

If I ask Alexa to turn off the lights, that doesn't mean I want to hear about health tips. If I tell her to add something to my shopping list, that's not a reason to offer me Halloween Party Ideas. When I want the weather, that is not an invitation to tell me about a great deal on batteries. I understand Google assistant and Siri commit similar crimes against decency.

I don't begrudge you trying to up-sell. Like I said, I'm down with the whole free market thing. BUT GIVE US A WAY TO TURN IT OFF!

Tech giants amass vast wealth and power on the strength of consumer participation. And most of us are mostly fine with most of that (for the most part), or at least don't care much about it. BUT WHY DO YOU INSIST ON ASSAULTING OUR EARS AND MINDS IN OUR OWN HOMES?
