Young adults are encouraged to gain independence and learn to drive from 17 years old. But when they pass their test, often within 12 months, they find they are unable to get insured.

Recent quotes for my 17 year old son ( 1 month off his 18th birthday) as a named driver on my policy ( a 47 year old woman with no accidents or claims and over 10 years  no claims bonus) ranged from a minimum of £7500 to £11,500 for a car insurance fully comprehensive policy for his first year of driving.

My own car insurance company refused blankly to quote saying their underwriters wouldn't allow it.

I would like the law to be changed as follows:

All new drivers under 25 years old must have black boxes fitted for insurance purposes

There is a curfew for drivers in the first 2 years of passing their tests to not be allowed to drive on friday or saturday nights or bank holidays ( statistically when most accidents with young drivers occur).

Premiums reduced to a more acceptable fee and capped at the most to £2500 per year

The car insurance companies aren't just penalising the young people, they're penalising parents and entire families. Insurance premiums must come down to allow the next generation to afford to drive.

This is getting as insane  as house prices, are young people going to be priced out of buying/running a car as well as buying a house soon?
