Approx. 21.08.16. An ordinary day to the average person. But to me, Nathaniel Barnaby, that was my judgement day. The agonizing day I left my job, at the best goddamn place anybody could ever wish to be employed.
This wasn't your average run of the mill store. This was one of the stores that made our region the best in the world (I still have the pen as proof!!) Where it didn't feel like work, but like a second home. There wasn't a day that went by that I could say "My God, I'm glad that shift was over!" Because every single person I worked with made me leave every shift with a smile.
It was here that I first announced that I'd be making the huge life changing decision to transition, and don't get me wrong, I was terrified, but I had the most powerful encouragement from some people I worked with. I can never thank those who helped me through the start of my transition enough.
Long story short, everything got a bit much and I ended up leaving my job.
I was a fool. A 20 year old fool with holes in my shoes, grey skinny jeans, blue hair and a tattoo on my head that screamed "Look at me, world! I have no care for what my mother thinks of me!"
I'm now a 22 year old with a lot more experience and a higher appreciation for my career and my life and I'd love the opportunity to return to work at the best store in the world.
(But nobody tell Mike I want to come back, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't keep up with him and his eye rolls ahahah)
