Petition to
Amajuba District Muncipality (Newcastle - KZN)

Why this petition matters

Please join our Newcastle Anti-Fireworks Facebook Group – this group was established to be a voice for the #vulnerable – this includes our beloved pets and animals, the elderly, people and children with special needs and Mother Nature and all of her beautiful creatures.

It is no secret that fireworks have a negative impact on the environment as a whole. Not only do they cause pollution, they leave animals disorientated, scared injured and in severe cases deceased. Fireworks also have a negative impact on the well-being of people; this includes, but is not limited to babies, the elderly, people and children with special needs. Old age home residents are left in a state of panic, riddled with anxiety and left disorientated by the massive explosions these fireworks make.

Mothers are left with anxiety and panic as they try to calm and comfort their screaming babies. Parents are left hopeless as their special needs children are confused, full of fear and left crying because of the massive explosions.

The residue of these fireworks also further pollutes our air, this then in turn does not do any favours for the environment when it comes to the Global Warming Pandemic we are faced with. The streets are left strewn with the remnants of what’s left after these bangs have been set off. Rivers and other water sources are left polluted, and parks are left in a state of disarray. This all goes without mentioning the fact that these fireworks are also fire hazards.

Birds, bees, fish, horses and other wild animals and live-stock are left to pay the price for a single night of ‘fun’, they are left disorientated and cannot find their way home or worse yet, they end up injured or deceased. Wild animals abandon their young, bees don’t make it back to the hive, birds suffer mass deaths, fish and other animals perish after ingesting firework debris, pets are left with anxiety and panic attacks, and humans are left with PTSD.

This all goes without even mentioning the number of injuries the shooters of these fireworks and their victims are left with each year.

With YOUR help, we can put a stop to these dreaded explosions for the greater good.

Is the damage these fireworks and their massive explosions really worth your one or 2 or even 3 nights of fun?
