The City has supposedly gifted the statue of Captain Hamilton which stands in Civic Square. The Mayor of that time never consulted with the citizens of this city about this gift. It was supposedly gifted to Hamilton by the Gallagher Group yesterday, mainly Bill & John Gallagher. We now know that Bill doesn't know the actual history of this country, let alone the factual history of this imperial killer.
There was a fake celebration for this city in 2014, the birthday of a city, which is not true- it celebrated the Raupatu, land confiscation, and disempowering of all tribal economics.
Captain Hamilton was killed during the Battle of Gate Pā (Pukehinahina) on 29 April 1864, he was struck in the head by a bullet during the battle, and fell on his sword. He never came to Hamilton, his imperial mate imposed that name on this city, this city is known as 'Kirikiriroa'.
It's a history that needs to be removed.
