No child is born prejudiced. It is through living with white privilege and growing up in a system shaped by systemic racism that kids learn racist behaviors and values. My friend Raghav and I started an organization called ERACE (Education Reform for Antiracist Curricula and Equality). We believe that public schools have a responsibility to implement antiracist curricula and teach their students how to be antiracist allies, as well as accurately teaching the histories of People of Color in America. We would like to work with the New York State Education department to, with a committee of students, parents, racial justice activists, experts, and educators, design a reformed curriculum that emphasizes unlearning racist prejudice and learning about racial struggles in the United States. We hope to expand our organization to other states as well.
