Hold Alpha Gamma Delta HQ Accountable for Racial Justice

We, collegians and alumni of Alpha Gamma Delta, find the actions that AGD IHQ has taken in response to the BLM movement to be insufficient and tone deaf.  This, alongside our recent failed attempts at removing Kay Ivey from our notable alumni page, has been met with empty words and few actionable objectives at holding AGD accountable. Kay Ivey is a woman who executed a POC, and has tried to push anti-abortion through legislation  (this would affect women of colour most) and has worn blackface. Given sororities' history with racism and specifically AGD's, we find that this lack of meaningful action disappointing and disturbing. We have a responsibility and we must stay true to our values. If Alpha Gamma Delta is is truly great, we must continue to prove it. Our sisters deserve this, our culture deserves this.

AGD has "acknowledged" its past and that is simply not enough. We do not expect "acknowledgement" from IHQ, we expect action, leadership, and guidance around this critically important issue that affects us all.

This petition is to publicly ask AGD International:

How are we helping our Black sisters?

What resources have we offered them?

Have you created a plan on how we can support them? To this end, there are many antiracism educators that make a living by doing this work and it would behoove AGD  to pay for them to come in and teach on what is happening.

How are we working with our non-Black members to remind them that inherent bias runs deep and that we are each responsible for unlearning racism? How will we address this with our fraternity?

Most importantly, where do we stand on the Kay Ivey issue? As leaders of AGD, do you feel that "acknowledgment of our past" is enough? Why? This is a woman that:
-saved confederate monuments
-marginalized low income communities that tend to have disproportionately higher black populations
-supports multiple racist and bigoted politicians within the Republican Party
-Wore blackface
-pushed anti-abortion through legislation

We ask these questions because we care deeply about Alpha Gamma Delta.
