Allow Veterans to seek immediate, lifesaving treatments outside the V.A.

Two-tour Iraq veteran Clay Treska is a role model. While Clay would gladly give his life for our country, he refuses to give it to cancer.   Clay has beat back cancer twice (Stage 4 in 2009) and also completed two Ironman races.  I and others around the globe have gotten to know him as a humble, but outspoken advocate for cancer patients.

But now the cancer may be back a third time and the growth around his spine is extremely aggressive, and the Veterans Administration won't allow him to seek the experimental treatment which proved successful before. Rather than sign the medical release forms he needs to seek necessary private care, they’ve told him he has only one choice if it is malignant: hospice care and death.

Clay VA won’t allow him to be eligible for treatment elsewhere. The federal government has given this Marine a death sentence. "It's almost like I've been fighting to survive more so when I came back here than when I was diagnosed [in Iraq]," Clay says.    The latest is the V.A. states that the experimental treatment which successfully worked previously, and which is what he is asking to have as an option.

"I empathize with caregivers who are overwhelmed and overtasked with responsibilities and if that would be the case, then they have to get the support necessary to function responsibly and adequately to the demand of the sick and needy." Clay Treska.

Two major American wars still rage – we have to take care of those few willing to serve, and of their families. They sacrificed; we should honor that sacrifice. Sign this petition to demand that the VA allow Clay and all of our veterans to seek necessary medical care in life-or-death situations.
