Before the second world war my grandfather Petrus and my great auntie Zofia and their families grew up, lived and worked in a part of Ukraine which then was part of Poland.
During the second world war the Russians came in like they are today. In my auntie case they put a gun to her head and was told by the soldiers "to go now" with nothing just the clothes she and her family stood in. Or be shot on the spot. They left with nothing. They never went back.
My parents, went back to see the places both had talked off during their later years. They found a beautiful country with warm and welcoming people. 
What is happening today is unforgivable and unimaginable. Please help where you can in whatever way you can big or small. But please write to your MPs and Mr Johnson and ask that Ukrainian people can seek sanctuary here in the UK without the need for visas or a sponsorship. None of the other European countries are doing this. I am unable to offer my home to people in crisis as they are not "family". I am ashamed.  The UK government issued 50 visas over the weekend 5th to 6th March 2022. The Polish people took over a million Ukrainian refugees.
