Allow Train Enthusiasts on stations managed by TfL with phones to record and take pictures
Why this petition matters
Emphasise and promote the use of photography on TfLs network, including advertisements and notices within stations for the interests of the public and staff.
This recently has been a major theme recently seen by TfL staff. Whenever a Train Enthusiast often comes to a station operated by TfL to record, they make the assumption that it is a risk of terrorism and can "destroy" the network.
There is a backlog in information in TfL Trainings which mean that staff are uninformed of what is and what is not allowed as you can clearly see here
Flash photography is not permitted, and the reasons behind that are fairly acceptable. However what needs to change is the fact that TfL should not be entitled to calling filming "illegal" if it's being filmed with a mobile phone without the use of any additional equipment which may cause harm to the general public.
After being at one of the London Underground stations, staff approached me with the exact reason as mentioned above, and describes it as a "risk" of terrorism, when terrorists could use resources that have been provided online, including TfLs 3D station diagrams in which they freely provided to the public as part of a freedom of information request along with YouTube videos if they wanted to, making the reason of banning filming even more unjustified. This even includes virtual game simulators in which the general public have access to from developers.
Furthermore to this, TfL advertise how "diverse" and attractive their network is, and as a public place, banning pictures or photography is disgusting. You should not have to go through a press team to take a picture of a station or even a person within a station. If TfL really were concerned about the network, then surely all of what has been described earlier would not exist
No one should have to be terrorised with the police in a public property to take a video or recording. A video is defined as loads of photos at a certain rate per second. Save the change, sign up now, and act ahead for generations to come. Too many have been silenced, so this is where we come together as a community and create change.
