Since Ms. Jarrett has taken the position of principal at Fitchburg High School, she has banned students from meeting with teachers outside their block for any reason. This decision is unnecessary and further more it is controlling. Students should be able to visit their teacher out of their scheduled period in order to meet about grades or any make up work they need to do, and furthermore if a student needs help with their subject, they should be allowed to meet with their teachers to receive extra help. By limiting the time teachers can work with students to before and after school, Ms. Jarrett is overestimating the availability many of our students have. Lots of our students have extracurricular activities after school, or they may have a job or take care of family members. Many of our students cannot drive and because of their situation may not have the ability to have their parents/guardians pick them up. By reprimanding a student's attempt to academically succeed with detention, Ms. Jarrett violates our school motto which is to be present, positive, and prepared.
