It is incredibly important for students to be able to showcase their identities, in ALL manners. The restriction of preferred names on non-legal documents and published materials like yearbooks is an infringement on students 1st amendment right of freedom of speech and expression. This restriction also specifically targets LGBTQ+ youth living in Oklahoma, who are already faced with the pressure of conforming to false identities. This issue once again forces them to re-mold themselves in the very same thing they worked hard to break out of.
