Why this petition matters

Started by Mary Gainey

Recycling in CA is now a law. I am passionate about climate change and world peace and I want to do my small part towards this by donating $.  I was stopped by CA State Parks officers over 4th of July weekend informing me it is illegal to scavenge because it is a violation and can be fined. I was not fined (officer didn’t know how much when I asked). I didn’t know this since there are no signs prohibiting. RV campers are supportive of my efforts and happily donate their recycles. I am a proud SGI-USA  Buddhist and care about our planet’s future. SGI-USA has a contribution campaign every May. I gave my experience in June on Zoom. ATT, I made a determination to double my contribution for May 2023. However, after the warning I wont be able to accomplish my goal and I am BUMMED. I have a $ goal and anything over it I will keep which will help due to the present inflation. I am 70 yo and only receive SS to support myself. I propose that CA State Parks department requires a recycling license to scavenge State beaches during limited hours. This change will allow scavenging without receiving a fine and going to court for something so ridiculous (my friends say). Please support my small efforts which will help/benefit all of us and especially the whole world.
