Manatee School for the Arts, as suggested in the name, is a school that prominently integrates the arts in every day curriculum. The kids who come to this school, by choice, mostly come to be able to express themselves. Why shouldn’t high schoolers be allowed to do that through patterned bottoms? The uniforms are already constricting enough, so why should our options for bottoms be so limited. Furthermore, the polos we are forced to buy are an expense to families that we should avoid adding to. By making the selection of bottoms permitted at MSA wider, we can possibly minimize the “back to school” cost that already pressures families. There is nothing disrespectful about pattern bottoms; in fact, plaid was commonly used as a pattern for traditional school uniforms. Patterns are unnecessarily restricted, when other outlets of expression, like hair, are so lenient. If there is no logical reason behind it, why should patterns be forbidden. Students at MSA just want to have a bit more freedom in what we wear.
