Why this petition matters

Started by John Martinsen

Currently Gilbert Public Schools doesn't allow AHCCCS- Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System contracted Behavioral Health Providers nor Privately funded providers to provide services into their schools.

Currently: in place is an observation process: that has to go through the Special Education Director for 1 hour per year per student. This is an inefficient process and the special education director isn't on site that the local schools. There are many other services that Behavioral Health Agencies can provide than just observation services to support the students who also receive their services

Through surveying local charter schools-American Leadership Academy, Skyline Education, The Leona Group and Ben Franklin charter, and the surrounding districts Mesa Public Schools and Tempe School Districts as well as the Phoenix Districts these agencies are allowed to provide services within the school systems.

The observation process is dated: for children with complex trauma such as my students would benefit from allowing agencies in being able to provide coaching and skill building on the spot through the use of a Behavioral Health providers from these AHCCCS contracted agencies.

The guardian parents and citizens Arizona are requesting that Gilberts Public Schools changes their policy to allow outside service providers who have a company id and finger print clearance card into the schools.

Move of the power of approval to the site administrator or their designee of school. Verses the Special Education director who's not onsite and not always readily available.

Allow for 3 to 4 hour observations.

When needed provide a private room for counseling.

When needed allow a Case Manager or Behavioral Health Tech through observation coach a student on their behavior while in the class room.

By allowing this to occur: stress is relieved from the teacher who's in the room. Allows the student to receive services that have a trauma informed provider perform.

Reduces overall classroom stress and preserves resources for the district to use else where.
