Why this petition matters

Started by Laura Bodily l

My husband is a car park attendant at Worcester royal hospital as part of the ISS service. His uniform policy is to wear a ISS branded polo T-shirt, thick dark blue trousers and working mens boots. He recently put in a request to allow him to wear shorts whilst attending the car park (knee length, the same colour as his trousers) and was told this was allowed. He spent his own wages £24.99 to purchase these shorts as he was also told this will be reimbursed. He wore the shorts for one day, didn’t feel overheated, felt more comfortable doing his duties, not bothering anyone.

The following day, ISS porters decided that because the car park attendant was wearing shorts, they should also be allowed despite being in an environment prone to cross contamination. Now, because of the complaints, my husband has been told he must wear trousers! My husband has attended another meeting to protest this, because of the upcoming heatwave, to be told there is nothing that can be done, and that if he wears shorts he will be sent home without pay!

My husband has to stand outside in the blistering heat, from 09:00 -17:00  wearing full uniform including toe capped boots (which we also feel is unnecessary whilst walking round a car park). The man is suffering. He isn’t bothering anybody, he works his backside off and yet is told by the people above him he cannot work comfortably. To me, this is against his human rights to work comfortably in a workplace.

If you agree that my husband should be able to work comfortably whilst wearing appropriate shorts, please sign this petition.

Would you be able to work outdoors 8 hours fully clothed in this heat?
