Why this petition matters

Louis-Riel Public High-school has decided that starting Monday April 4th, students will no longer be allowed to carry their bags with them (which forces them to use their lockers to store all of their belongings).

This rule has done nothing but cause trouble for Louis-Riel students. Carrying all of your belongings causes shoulder/arm pain & is also very dangerous since many students have been dropping their stuff in the halls (due to the heavy weight).

Since the installation of this rule, students have been late to class more often since they have to run back to their lockers (some students have their lockers and their classes on opposite ends of the school). The break between every class isn’t long enough for everyone to grab all of their things and get to class. There are too many students circulating at the same time.

Allowing students to carry their bags with them will minimize hallway circulation since there will be less need to go to lockers. With the uprising COVID-19 cases, wouldn’t it be favorable to minimize unnecessary circulation? Students will have less excuses to roam around school during class and they’ll be more prepared for every period (they’ll be more organized).
