Illinois Student: Permits and License Petition
Why this petition matters

Thousands of teens across the state spent hours in class taking long and often very stressful drivers ed classes. In addition, many students have already practiced driving with parents or in range classes. Students completing drivers ed would’ve qualified for their permit which would allow them to get their license by the end of the year (after the 9 month permit phase). However, these students cannot even get their permit, meaning thousands of students have waisted money, time and energy on a drivers ed class this year. Or the people who completed their permit phase and want to take the official road test. However, Governor Pritzker you can change this! During these troubled times, the state of Illinois should allow online permit/road test to allow students who completed or enrolled in drivers ed to receive their permit or license. To ensure safety throughout the state, the licenses and permits would be temporary until whenever the stay-at-home order is complete. Post COVID-19 students would take the range test in person, or the permit test in person to get their official permit/license. Many states like Georgia and Wisconsin have already begun this process. Illinois should take the steps to make this happen!
