Schools all over the country have already decided to move past the outdated tradition of banning hats and hoods in schools. As the dress code becomes more flexible, it would make sense to allow for this small luxury. Hats allow for self expression, school pride, and overall comfort. They additionally can hide greasy or messy hair, that might otherwise be a distraction as a personal insecurity. If hats are considered a security issue, face masks would have caused a similar concern. However, as far as I know, that wasn’t an issue in Frankfort. As the small school we are, I think we would be able to easily manage any difficulties that came with hats. Like any other rule, there are of course exceptions. If hats or hoods become a distraction, they could of course, be temporarily confiscated. But until that is a serious issue, we, the students, would like to take the power into our own hands and bring about this simple and long awaited change.
