Dear Readers of our petition, here is a little insight to what this petition is all about. Why This Is Important and why should you sign? I’ll tell you :) Me and Mike met each other on the social networking site Facebook on the 19th of January 2010 . We have just Celebrated our 2 year Anniversary, yet we have only spent 12* months together. Why and how is this possible? Because I (mickey from the UK) have to leave the United States of America after 90 days and remain out of the country for the same amount of days, or longer. ( Aparantly it’s some un written rule.. [STAY OUT MORE THAN YOU STAY IN]). While I am in back in the United Kingdom and away from the man I LOVE , Me and Mike have to Communicate with each other on skype until I can return for a final 2nd 90 days, as i’m only allowed to stay in the US for 6months in a whole year. On the 25th of December 2011 Mike asked me to marry him that followed with a huge YES from me, and we are planning on getting married this year (2012). However this won't get recognized by federal law and will only in the states that allow gay marriage, so until things change, even married to the man I love means I will still haft to leave… If we were a heterosexual married couple things would be much different. Equality should extend to all people. We need signatures that will then be printed out and sent to the White House for the President Obama to see. I have never asked for anything in my life and if this outrages you, can you please sign our petition. DOMA-Defense of Marriage Act needs to be Dumped, plain and simple. Please feel free to pass this along to anyone whom you think can assist us Thanks you so much for taking the time Mickey&Mike xox
- President of the United States
I just signed the following petition addressed to: President Obama and the Congress.
Mickey and Mike belong together in St Louis!!!! One is American and One is British. While they are committed to each other, they are separated by more then an ocean. They have to be content to see each other using Skype and FaceBook when they can not be together. The American partner should be able to sponsor the Brit. Love should not have any boundaries. But we know it does in the real world. I appeal to you Mr. President to help remove this roadblock called DOMA. Thank you!
