Allow CU Boulder Students to return to campus on January 10th
On December 31st, CU students received one of the few first "EMERGENCY ALERTS' sent from the CU Administration this school year, to announce the closure of campus for the first two weeks of semester due to the recent wildfires the devastated Boulder County, as well as the newest Covid-19 variant.
We recognize the after these fires, and many other tragic events unfolding during the holiday season, many students and faculty within the area are left without permanent places to live, student mental health is at an all time low according to the Denver Post(1); and we can all agree that we're going a bit mental being stuck at home.
We believe it to be fair for students to return to the residence halls, for the duration of distance learning. This in result, would allow students who face unstable living conditions or are struggling with mental health the semblance many seek from life on campus, while students who chose to remain at home can begin the semester from their given location. Being around peers and changing location are proven to improve happiness.(2)
Students will be more than willing to adapt to increased Covid-19 protocols to stop the spread of Covid-19. With increased safety protocols, including mask usage in Dorm halls, social distancing within campus grounds, along with whatever else the Administration deems fit.
Students will greatly appreciate returning to campus on time, and hope to continue that way throughout the year. We are dedicated to doing our part to keep CU and the city of Boulder safe, so we can come back to the friendships and campus that has helped make life feel a little bit more normal in these unprecedented times.
