Allow Children Enrolled in The New Sunbeam Nursery to Remain Until September 2022

Allow Children Enrolled in The New Sunbeam Nursery to Remain Until September 2022
Why this petition matters
May 2022 owner/operator Sara-Lee Laws has been advised by Bermuda Government that she must adhere to guidelines affecting the Teacher-Student ratio and space requirements of The New Sunbeam Nursery. WITH EFFECT IMMEDIATELY. This spacing requirement change will mean that 4 students who are currently in the preschool leaving class will have to be made to stop attending the Nursery.
With Preschool starting in September, parents will face the task of finding a new school for their children to attend for a short 3 months. Not only are there NO other registered nurseries as per Government's Approved Day Care Center Listing in the Eastern part of the island, but more worrying is the effect it will have on the children. Meeting new teachers and classmates is not easy for all, and routine is so very important to little children. Not only will they need to adjust to a new nursery, but then to only have another school change again after the 3 months as they go onto Preschool.
Please support The New Sunbeam Nursery staff, parents and children to remain in the school, with adjustments made to meet Teacher-Student ratios, until they leave in September to move onto Preschool.
It is important to note that the nursery is fully licensed, license 319, issued on April 1st 2021 until August 31st 2022, with an approved enrollment of 30 children. This license is posted at the Nursery and its enrollment capacity posted on the Government Website Day Care Center List still today. Current enrollment is under this requirement with only 27 children. These ratios and spacing requirements have been the same since 1999 and EVERY year the Nursery has been issued a valid license without changing its location or size. The New Sunbeam Nursery has been licensed and operational with the same capacity of 30 children for 40+ years.
Many thanks for your support.
