Why this petition matters

Karnataka on 6th January 2022 recorded 5,031 Covid-19 cases and one death of which Bengaluru alone registered 4,324 infections taking the positivity rate to 7.5 percent. 107 new cases of Omicron variant of COVID-19 were registered, taking the total number to 333. Mathematical projection by Indian Statistical Institute says that Karnataka may see between 40000 and 1.3 lakh Covid cases a day during the peak of the third wave in February and the state government concurred with the forecast saying it was looking at 1lakh cases daily excluding the unregistered cases.

We, the students of MBA First Year, September Batch, want to bring your notice to following:

0n 5th of January, ongoing examinations from 6th January were postponed with conveying the exams will be conducted from 17 January in online mode, through formal mode of communication.

We vacated the hostels with personal best interests for health & safety through guidance from parents, having seen the deadly impact of virus. Considering the measures taken on campus, day scholars and staff from all over Bangalore travelling to campus, Hostel food courts not maintaining the required social distancing norms, making us more susceptible to the virus.

We, the students of MBA First Year, September Batch, then received a corrigendum mail day after, reinstating the rescheduling of our semester-end examinations mode to be offline from 19th January.

We have a diverse mix of students who come from Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, New Delhi, Odisha, Ooty, and Maharashtra. Making it very hard to attend the examinations offline considering the safety of our health and of those with who we come in contact.

As per various predictions, the peak of the possible Omicron-led third wave in India could arrive in January end and February beginning, when the country's daily caseload might reach four to eight lakh.

What we want?

1. Academic Session to be conducted online until there is a safe environment and drop in Omicron case surge.

2. Requesting administration to consider conducting examination through online mode to avoid gathering and travel making us susceptible to the virus.

3. Timely commencement of Second Semester classes with other batches.

Many of the universities have implemented the same successfully, as we parents and students request to be heard and considered, for better safety and welfare from the university we have invested to build a better future. This is only causing a stressful environment in these difficult times.

Hope to have a rational response with support and decisions for changes in betterment of students.

Sincerely.
