I am reaching out on behalf of family members of folks incarcerated at the Allegheny County Jail. Despite already having COVID-safe (non-contact) measures in place during in-person visits, the jail continues to bar families from their loved ones.  Instead of being allowed to participate in hour-long, free, in-person visits, family and friends of incarcerated folks have to pay $3 for each fifteen minute interaction we have with our loved ones.  This could be over video chat or call.  It is extremely unfair to put those who are at economic disadvantage far behind in their ability to speak with their loved ones.

If you don't have money while in jail, you become isolated without visitations.  It becomes lonely and despicable to be locked away all day with no physical or even distant support from those you love, simply because you are not economically advantaged.

I have not seen my boyfriend and brand new baby's father since early November, when he was locked away. There is nothing we want more than for him to be able to meet our first child as soon as possible.

IF YOU HAVE FAMILY OR LOVED ONES INCARCERATED AT ALLEGHENY COUNTY JAIL, PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION. I AM TRYING TO START A COALITION TO RESTORE VISITATION SO WE CAN SEE OUR LOVED ONES WITHOUT SPENDING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OVER VIDEO CHAT AND CALLS.
