allergen friendly option

allergen friendly option
Food allergies are a growing food safety and public health concern that affect an estimated 8% of children in the United States. That's 1 in 13 children, or about 2 students per classroom. Additionally, about 30% of children have more than one allergy to food. Our lunch cafeteria currently does not offer an allergen friendly option meal at lunch which potentially leaves about 8 percent of students unable to take advantage of the free lunch our school provides. It is important all students have access to a nutritious meal in order to support healthy growth in development. There is a possibility that not every child will have a nutrient sufficient meal outside of school which is why I see the need to make an allergy friendly option mandatory daily to ensure all students have access to one. By signing this petition you are supporting a change for Waubosnie valley to be required to offer an allergy friendly option that does not include the top 8 allergens: milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans.
