Why this petition matters

Started by Peter Little

The lack of town centre toilets in Maryport has been a concern to many residents and visitors alike for some time.

Independent Councillors for both Maryport North and South Wards have continually tried to persuade the Conservative led and Labour supported Allerdale Executive to resolve this issue without any success.

Given the increase in tourists and the number of residents using the town centre, the need for town centre toilet facilities is now greater than ever and the lack of support from Allerdale Borough Council is totally unacceptable.

It is excellent news to hear that the town was recently awarded £1.2 million towards the Maryport's High Street Heritage Action Zone and a further £11.5 million as part of the Future High Streets Fund.

However, given that many elderly residents visit the town, the current facilities in their present form are unacceptable. To keep visitors coming back there is a desperate need for public amenities and that includes more accessible and centrally located public toilets.
