It is not right or just to change the hours of school for AHS to 6 hours a day 5 days a week during COVID-19, This goes for both hybrid and virtual. The day is already long enough with people having to wear masks or stare at a screen with little to no breaks. Now changing that from making the school day end at 2:00 instead of 11:35 is absolutely horrendous (Starting at 7:20 AM). Making teenagers and children do school work through the screen or through the mask with little to no breaks, inside a school or sitting at a desk at home, for 6 hours straight is just inhumane. What is the benefit of making the day longer? You can learn what is needed to be learned in the time span we have, and making that time any longer will just bore students and indirectly promotes kids to not pay attention to the teacher on the other side of the screen. Without interactivity, students simply won’t care enough. By increasing the amount of time in each class is only going to make this even worse. For the hybrid side of things, it brings up health issues. The longer you are in the same room with someone the more likely you are to catch COVID-19. In an article by UChicagoMedicine titled How far does COVID-19 spread throughout the air? Study monitors virus in hospital rooms it states, “infection from touching surfaces is not the major way the virus spreads. The bigger risk is spending time with infected people” (Lerner, UChicagoMedicine.org). This shows how by increasing the time people are in classrooms, the bigger the chance for spreading the infection. As you can see there is no benefit to lengthening the school days. I hope that you will realize and save people from getting sick and the school from closing down until COVID-19 is over.
