Benjamin Blackburn started this petition to Allegheny Student Government and

At Allegheny College we have a statement of community that shows how students and faculty should interact with one another. There are a number workers on campus who students feel are unappreciated for the hard labor they put in day by day. These are workers such as administrative assistants, food service and sanitation workers. In an effort to recognize the efforts that on campus workers put in, we believe the following italicized statements should be added to the Allegheny College statement of community:

"Allegheny students and employees are committed to creating an inclusive, respectful and safe residential learning community that will actively confront and challenge racism, sexism, heterosexism, classism, religious bigotry, and other forms of harassment and discrimination. We encourage individual growth by promoting a free exchange of ideas in a setting that values diversity, trust, equality and contributions that all workers make through their labor. So that the right of all to participate in a shared learning experience is upheld, Allegheny affirms its commitment to the principles of freedom of speech and inquiry, while at the same time fostering responsibility and accountability in the exercise of these freedoms."

With enough student support, the following additions to the statement of community will be presented to the Allegheny Student Government. The end goal would be for a resolution to be passed for the college administration to recognize. This would make sure that all people present on campus have their efforts to make Allegheny College a better place are recognized.

This is a continuation of a project began by the Students for Labor at Allegheny College during the 2018-2019 academic year.
