We are the people of Starkholmes Allotments, Matlock - a two acre site under serious threat, in beautiful Derbyshire, UK. Allotments are great places for community growing, a really effective, low carbon way of growing food. In July 2021 the private landlord served us notice to quit and clear the site by September 2022, with likely intention of selling the land for housing development.  We recognise the need for more affordable housing across the District, however, getting planning permission on our site does not guarantee affordable housing will be built.

This petition is directed to Derbyshire Dales District Council and Matlock Town Council, to start the Compulsory Purchase Order process for this site, to allow growing to continue here.  Starkholmes Allotments Association will raise the necessary funds to buy the land at an appropriate cost.

By signing this petition, you give us, our community and future generations support for this process. This is our best chance to keep this 100 year old site in the heart of our community.  Our site serves local people, young and old, enabling people to ‘grow their own’ whilst reaping the benefits to health and wellbeing. You are sending the message to our councils that community growing is important and should be provided for, close to where we live.
