Matthew has Cerebral Palsy, vision impairment, and severe intellectual Disability with other medical needs

Our son Matthew, through no fault of his own suffered many incident’s during the years he resided in a large residential centre, which resulted in facial swelling with severe bruising (unable to open eyes); fracture of his right hand after finger nails had been cut and falling while being strapped in his wheelchair from the back of a van and to top that wrong medication given which caused dangerous side effects, these are only a few things that Matthew endured. These incidents have caused Matthew stress and trust issues. Matthew was always blamed for the injuries; no one would ever own up, on one occasion we were told at a meeting that the person responsible for Matthews hand injury would admit to causing the injury if we agreed to never disclose the person’s name, we have kept to that agreement , these are a few reasons why we advocated to have Matthew transferred into the group home he now resides in , this placement was apparently the only suitable vacancy at the time , we have been waiting ever since for a promised transfer for Matthew to our local area in Penrith .After another so called review Matthews name has been put on ADAHC’s list for immediate supported accommodation –then stated no options of relocation in immediate future..(7 years now) Does this mean never??

Matthew is well cared for by the group home where he lives and they are very supportive with the family’s decision in having Matthew live close to his family, as it is in Matthews’s best interests

Matthew living so far from us is causing us and Matthew undue stress, and as we are getting older the distance and heavy traffic has become more challenging for us.

Matthew attends a day programme in Penrith 3 days a week. He leaves Nth Ryde at 7.00am and returns to the house around 3.45pm travelling by taxi both ways. Spending  long days in his wheelchair is putting too much stress on Matthews’s body; Matthew gets up at 5.00am in order to be ready for 7.00 am pickup. ADAHC pays for Matthews Taxi fares but how long will this last considering ADAHC is going to be non-existent from 2018. Matthews Group Home will be up for tender in the near future and does this mean that Matthew won’t be able to attend his current placement as to far away and group home won’t be able to afford it.Please sign this petition to help us achieve relocation for Matthew into a group home close to us.

Thankyou

Rosalie & David
