The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world, ranked 189th out of 218 countries assessed (Source: The State of Nature Report 2016).

So why does this fact matter to us?

  1. Nature provides, among other things, clean air, fresh water and healthy food,
  2. We are all part of Nature, hence why we gain so many mental health and wellbeing benefits when we spend time in green spaces. Nature is important to all of our lives. It helps make our children happy and provides health benefits that shorten waiting lists in our doctor's surgeries, walk-in centres and hospitals!
  3. 90% of the UK population now live in cities. Urban green spaces and nature are vital in protecting air quality, health and wellbeing.
  4. Earth is our home and preserving the planet's life systems is vital to human existence. The UK should be setting the standard in terms of looking after these natural systems that protect the health and wellbeing of its people, instead of dragging heals at the bottom of world league tables!
  5. The gift of life is a miracle! Life on earth is the only known source in the universe and Nature should therefore be treated as sacred, for the good of all.

In a world where broken politics and corporate media serve to divide the people, the solution to the real issues of our time remains simple. By working together, people can solve and achieve anything!

60% of the world's wildlife has been wiped out since 1970. We must ACT NOW!

Please SIGN and SHARE this petition to show UK councillors and MPs that the people of the United Kingdom are united and want those in power to join them in pledging a friendship with the rest of Nature, for the good of all.
