We all are living in a world where some miscreants can escape legal repercussions because of a law that hasn't been changed since the 1960s. Let's get into a little detail, according to The Prevention Of Cruelty to Animal Act, 1960, India, one can escape the bars after committing heinous crimes to the voiceless souls by paying a fine anything between Rs 10-50. Under section 428 of the IPC, a person can face a 2yrs jail term for killing or maiming any animal or animals worth Rs 10 and 5yrs jail term for killing or maiming any animal or animals of Rs 50 or more. So, the penalty for torturing an animal in India is as less as the price of a kg of Onion.
This issue needs to be brought to the fore to show how the abuse of animals is taken with light pertinence. Given the fact mentioning one such instance, in the year 2019, two nurses of NRS Medical College and hospital had brutally killed 16 puppies on the Campus and got away with it, thanks to IPC 429 (mischief by killing or maiming animals) and Section 11(L) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act.
Please sign this petition for the amendment of this archaic law and bring forth more harsh penalties for the evildoers.
Thank You.
