Parking tickets at Rutgers University New Brunswick are excessive and uncalled for. We as students are paying thousands of dollars a year to be at this institution and are being penalized for attending our classes, school events, mandatory club meetings, job interviews etc. The bus system that Rutgers provides simply does not satisfy the needs of 50,000 undergraduate students and all of their responsibilities that Rutgers encourages. The New Brunswick and Piscataway campuses are separated by major highways and with a limited supply of transportation and a faulty system, students very often have no other choice than to take themselves there. We need a change. The number of students is rising and the parking as is, is inadequate and requires major alterations in order to positively benefit its students.

The Department of Transporation Services have changed their system this year in 2018 to a digital system that does not even require the officer to leave their vehicle to ticket someone, making it even easier to penalize students and in turn piling up money. The current permit rules and regulations coupled with the crippling busing system are not enough to get the growing population of students to and from all of their requirements in a sufficient manner. Rutgers University has made millions and millions of dollars from parking citations. This money could be used implement a more efficient system for the current students and faculty. The individuals who are already financially unstable due to their attendance at this University can no longer be the ones suffering. A compromise must be made for the greater welfare of the student population.
