Save South Unionville Neighbourhood started this petition to All residents of South Unionville Markham Ontario Canada

As residents of South Unionville, you probably received a letter from the City of Markham back in February 2020, about an application submitted by Digram Development Inc. This application is to request a re-zoning to the land with frontages along Helen Avenue and Greenberg Gate, from low density housing to Residential High Rise with 8 storeys totalling 301 units.

  • South Unionville currently only has detached dwellings, semi-detached dwellings and townhouses. A high rise will definitely not mix well with the current community. The condo building at Langham Square along Kennedy Square is a high rise, however it is part of a commercial complex.
  • South Unionville is short on playgrounds. Within the neighbourhood, there are only four - Avoca Park, Caboto Trail Parkette, Ray Street Park and South Unionville Park West.
  • Based on York Region District School Board, 2018-2022 Capacity Strategy, Jun 12, 2018, both elementary and secondary schools in Markham are close to or some even over capacity. An increased population will further add a heavier burden to our education system.

·     Do you want your property values to go down?
·     Do you want this quiet neighbourhood, which embraces a beautiful skyline to include high-rise buildings that over shadows your home?
·     Do you want 3-7 years of construction with dust, noise and dump trucks in your backyard?
·     Do you want additional traffic in this neighbourhood that is already congested?
·     Do you want fewer or busier access to our existing amenities?

If your answer is No, we are asking for your support to reject the re-zoning request.  Even though the public meeting has not been scheduled, we would like to shut down this request and make sure the City of Markham and the developers hear our voice loud and clear. This is the time to unite our community and fight for our right to live quietly and peacefully in our neighbourhood.

If the neighbourhood and quality of living in South Unionville is important to you, we would appreciate your signature on this petition, which will be submitted to the City of Markham to stop this re-zoning application.
