One way we can truly make a difference is to make sure our children do not spread the virus. As every parent knows, the place our children pick up the most germs is at school. Currently, the only proven way to prevent the virus from spreading is by social distancing. Here is an excerpt from the article that might change your response to this virus:

"Social Distancing
There is one very simple thing that we can do and that works: social distancing.

If you go back to the Wuhan graph, you will remember that as soon as there was a lockdown, cases went down. That’s because people didn’t interact with each other, and the virus didn’t spread.

The current scientific consensus is that this virus can be spread within 2 meters (6 feet) if somebody coughs. Otherwise, the droplets fall to the ground and don’t infect you.

The worst infection then becomes through surfaces: The virus survives for up to 9 days on different surfaces such as metal, ceramics and plastics. That means things like doorknobs, tables, or elevator buttons can be terrible infection vectors.

The only way to truly reduce that is with social distancing: Keeping people home as much as possible, for as long as possible until this recedes."

If we don't close the schools immediately, we stop all ability to prevent the virus. The only reason we have a low number of confirmed infections is because of the extreme lack of testing kits. China already has people returning to work. California has much less ability and capacity to contain and treat the virus. The more we delay immediate action the more chaotic the future will be. Please protect yourself and your loved ones by signing this petition.

I advocate for online teaching and the "renting out" of ipads for children in our districts that don't have the capacity to work online. I recommend we don't even consider going back to school for at least 14 days. We may not be able to prevent what's happening in Italy (due to the incapacity and flaws inherent in our already taxed medical system) but we can at least prevent thousands of our loved ones from perishing, by closing physical attendance of the 2nd largest school district in the country.
