Why this petition matters

Started by Beverley D. Jones

31st October 2019 I was feeding my cats in the early evening with the kitchen door open as usual when a random firework was ignited in the near vicinity.  The intense loud bang terrified all my cats whilst they were eating.  They all scattered into the garden for safety and my female cat, Gracie, timid and sweet took her tried and tested route through the trees into next door’s garden.  As Gracie was terrified, probably with her head low, she ran into the concrete kerb and sustained blunt force trauma.  After searching for her, I discovered her dead body in next door’s garden the following afternoon.  Grace was wet, rigid with a slug trying to enter her mouth, a young cat killed all for one random firework.  Her death was senseless and utterly wrong. I have discovered other examples of heartache people have endured this year and previous years.   Three weeks ago a woman was walking her dog, a firework was ignited and the dog so terrified ran into the road and was run over.  Some years ago a man was walking his dog, Shearer, on the beach away from fireworks, youths arrived ignited a firework and the dog terrified fled into the sea and drowned.  Shearer was washed up a week later.  That man did his best to petition and nothing transpired from his efforts.  Three examples of horses I have read – the horse so terrified he twisted his gut and took 14 hours to die, the young colt driven mad with the sound of fireworks he had to be put down and the horse in a field next to a firework display that paced his field in terror then died on barbed wire.  This must stop and for Gracie and the others I am started yet another petition which has to be listened to this time. A human example a man who returned from Afghanistan.  He visits a shop my friend works in. He shakes, in my mother’s time they would call that shellshock, now its PTSD.  Can you imagine the fear a random firework would cause that man?

There are alternatives - silent firework displays.  I have found 3 companies on the internet who produce these fireworks and I intend to find out more information.  Silent firework displays in Italy have been presented since 2016 by order of the Mayor in certain areas.  So why can’t we?  After all the British are animals lovers aren’t they?  There MUST be a ban on fireworks for 2020.  I am appealing to you to sign this petition to restart the campaign and show the public have had enough of losing their animals.  I urge you to sign my appeal please.  Thank you so very much.
