Nurses Stand Up for Reproductive Rights in Texas!!

As you well may know, Texas has passed SB 8, which requires abortion providers to listen for a fetal heartbeat (technically the flutter of electrical activity in fetal cells) prior to performing the procedure; if one is detected, it then becomes illegal to perform the abortion. The heartbeat can often be detected as early as six weeks, which is earlier than most women are even aware that they may be pregnant. If the procedure is performed anyway, the provider, the woman receiving the abortion, even the Uber driver who drove her to the clinic- they could all be sued in civil court by virtually any citizen. And there is no exception for rape or incest.
We as health care providers and supporters of women's heath and reproductive rights find this law reprehensible and needlessly cruel to the citizens of Texas. Women can be forced to carry unwanted pregnancies to term, even in cases where the woman was raped. We call upon any nurse who is considering working in the State of Texas to find employment elsewhere until this law is repealed. Help end this vicious attack on women's bodily autonomy and practice nursing elsewhere, as well as taking your hard earned dollars elsewhere. Don't support Texas or SB8 until women in Texas have their fundamental rights back!
