I Just moved to this Alachua County. Here in Alachua County. Correct me if I am wrong,  there is no such as asd unit classrooms,  even in elementary schools. I joined a group and discovered most parents here are home schooling their kids because this inclusive asd thing is not working.

It's said to place our children in the least Restrictive environment. But a General  Education class for many children on the Spectrum is a most Restrictive environment. Because they do not have the supports they require to succeed academically.

If this decision was made to save money. I don't see how finding qualified teachers and sending them to be in a General Education class across all schools poorly equipped with the services needed for these children, Saves money as opposed to having asd units in zoned schools where the teachers and services are all in one place.

What's more important is that our children are suffering, being suppressed, having increased depression, at risk for runaways to name a few concerns.

I'm told it's the law now doing away with asd units. I disagree that this should be law. My daughter, Alyssa, who loved school. work her way up to an A student, joined band, signed herself up to perform in concerts, now hates school, because she is shoved in a Gen ed classroom, where the teachers simply don't know what they are looking at. She is depressed all the time. The school claims to be providing the services kids need, but design her IEP based on their lack of services and not her needs. The General ed teachers are  not equipped to serve asd students to their full potential.  asd classes need to be brought back for these children. Where my daughter once thrived, becoming her best self. Gen ed may work for some, but it's not right for all.

If gifted children can have units designed for them to excel in their unique ability, in a unique learning environment, why are asd children expected to have less consideration.

Whoever came up with this idea is very short sighted and clearly do not understand the true potential of an autistic child.

As educators in the general education department I'm sure you have seen these kids just fall in the shadows instead of be their personal best. As a parent, that is simply not good enough for our children's educational  needs.

This needs to be changed.
