We learned just this week that the Springs HOA board will revote soon and which would allow an opportunity to rescind their earlier vote and approval to host at the Springs the COACHELLA VALLEY GRAND PRIX (CVGP) Pickleball tournament.  Last fall, to be exact, the HOA Board voted on and approved hosting the CVGP tournament.  This approval was communicated to the tournament organizers who relied upon the board’s vote and commitment and began the costly process of launching, planning, organizing and advertising for the tournament, only to learn five months later that the HOA Board members have the opportunity to change their minds at the next meeting.

This venue was approved by the HOA Board, but our General Manager, Rich Yehling is not supportive of the event. Our General Manager has been very vocal about his views as to “The Courts not being a viable asset to the community”  and believes “Pickleball is just another fad.” regardless of what the homeowners and members want. We want to get this out and signed before the next Board meeting.

In listening to the last HOA Board meeting, we learned that the General Manager, Rich Yehling in not in favor to allow the CVGP tournament and advises the board against it, based on the concern that the tournament would draw participants and viewers from outside the community which would be inadvisable for a Private Club which is intended to be used by members only.  From the Courts perspective, the basis disclosed being a Private Club should not allow outside non-members to utilize the member facilities is a double standard we will not tolerate.  The Springs is a Private Club and as such the Golf facilities are utilized several times each year by outsiders from the public who reserve and utilize for their group, the golf course to host a major golf events, exclusively for non-members.  How can it be allowed for golf but not for pickleball?

As supporters of the Courts and as avid pickleball proponents, we believe it is time to take action.  We have prepared the attached petition which we ask all homeowners to sign, to support the Springs hosting the CVGP tournament, to bring visibility and attention to the Springs as a premier Pickleball facility, support the Courts, to support pickleball and to convey to the HOA board that decisions are not to be made lightly but judiciously and respectfully for all stakeholders. HOA Board decisions which have undergone a vote are a matter of record and relied upon. These decisions are not to be made or undone at the personal whimsy of our General Manager. We wish to remind him and the board of their duty to represent our interests as determined by US, the homeowners and members.
