Why this petition matters

Started by Jaison Abraham

Obtaining Informed Consent is the process by which permission by the patient or the patient's healthcare advocate is granted to undertake a procedure or treatment after being given information about the possible consequences and benefits.

In the Florida Statues, there is no explicit requirement that healthcare providers or facilities obtain informed consent when they bypass a medication allergy alert. That means you or a loved one could be given medication that is known to be harmful without their knowledge.

As a healthcare worker, I believe all patients have the right to receive information and ask questions about recommended treatments to make well-considered decisions about care. Successful communication in the patient-physician relationship fosters trust and supports shared decision making.

My father was not afforded the right to be an active participant in his healthcare due to the lack of explicit requirements for informed consent.

Please sign the following petition to show you solidarity as I advocate for change at the Florida Senate and US Congress.
