People are being unexpectedly pulled over by State Troopers because they were unaware their registrations had expired. Some are having their cars towed and impounded involving a lot of moneyto get their cars back.

The DMVs of MA and RI and possibly other states have recently stopped sending out registration renewals.

There is also the potentially illegal linking of pawment of motor vehicle excise tax to the ability to renew registrations. The amount of underpayment can be as little as TWO CENTS.
