In light of the current Covid-19 pandemic, many colleges and universities are scrambling to find a solution to finish the current school term. As educators are faced with this unprecedented situation, students are being faced with a tremendous amount of uncertainty. Many of those students suffer from existing mental health challenges, and the current landscape is exacerbating those challenges.

Anxiety surrounding potential lockdowns and state-of-emergency declarations is leaving students to face concerns around job security, personal and family health, social isolation, and any number of other issues. As a post-secondary student in Ontario, I have found myself dealing with a tremendous amount of anxiety which has made it extremely difficult to even entertain the thought of school work at this time. I'm not a slacker, I'm afraid.

This petition requests that post-secondary educators across Canada consider an act of solidarity with their concerned students by reallocating the weight of students' current grades and cancelling the balance of the term. This has already been done by a small number of professors in Southern Ontario, but a sweeping action across the country would protect the physical and mental health of students. By doing this, educators will take the weight of worrying about their studies off the backs of their students, so they can focus on taking care of themselves, their families, and their communities.
