Please sign this petition if you support the Grad Class of 2020 having a proper graduation with appropriate precautions.  SD42

It's 2020.  It's also the most bizarre time in most of our lives.  I am a Mom of a 2020 Graduate in SD42 and as most people know, Covid is really throwing a curve ball in everyone's lives.  BUT it doesn't have to ruin things or strip children of moments they can never recreate, we just need to adapt and modify events to create memories. Being together, but staying apart...ya know?

LET'S GIVE THESE KIDS A MODIFIED GRADUATION!  I propose that we get the grads together (but 6 feet apart) in their own soccer field.  Each chair placed safely 6 feet away from the other.  Maybe even all students with last names from A-M first and N-Z or we have two ceremonies and have students pick first or second Grad ceremony and we pick their first choice on a first come, first serve basis.  Use a PA system to call up each Grad one by one.  Have a professional photographer ready(dry grad money or money raised or a photographer to donate their time).  Each Grad gets a few professional pics of them recieving their diploma(each family could decide to purchase these photos). All the grads can cheer for their fellow graduates too (like a regular Grad).  Just for the Grads.  Parents can wait in their cars and honk or whatever they like.  Each Grad sits back down in their chair and cheers on the rest of the grads.  Then they leave the field in social distancing fashion in their cap and gown like all grads did before them.  The possibilities are endless now that things have opened up a little.  Also, if we can line up outside Winners or Costco...we can make this happen!

These kids deserve to be recognized for their efforts in real time with their real peers.  For some of these kids, this will be their only graduation ever.  For some of these kids, school and teachers was the only place that made them feel safe and important.  Covid-19 has changed so many things and so many lives, let's not let it take this precious milestone away too.  As an adult I believe we need to speak up for these kids.  Make this right!  In this overwhelming time of uncertainty and change, let's show up for them! THE GRAD CLASS OF 2020 DESERVES BETTER...every signature counts.
