Stop 95' ft Buildings in Arlandria Neighborhoods
Residents across northern Alexandria are facing a decision by City Council that will negatively impact the future of our neighborhoods and the homes, garden apartments and townhomes in them. The City of Alexandria Planning Commission and City Council are set to vote on the Draft Arlandria-Chirilagua Small Area Plan that recommends raising the maximum allowable building heights to 95' feet in almost all surrounding residential areas of the north Mt Vernon Ave corridor. This includes the neighborhoods of Hume Springs, parts of Lynhaven, Lenox Place/Sunnyside, and Presidential Greens.
To reach 95' feet, homes would need to dedicate about 9% of the new height to affordable housing. However owners could also opt to pay cash instead. This is not how you preserve a neighborhood. With 2 very large, high-density residential projects equaling ~1000 new units already in planning stages, we don't need the possibility of even more density.
We need your help to ensure our neighborhoods are kept safe from increased density that would negatively impact the character and fabric of our communities.
Please sign this petition to tell the City of Alexandria Planning Commission and City Council to VOTE NO to increasing building heights in neighborhoods surrounding Arlandria-Chirilagua that would raise maximum allowable heights to 90' feet.
Tell them "95' foot homes do not belong in a neighborhood!"
